The History
It started, as good stories often do, with a pub.
In 2013, a young couple stumbled upon Burrawang on a weekend escape from the city. They fell in love with it immediately – the village, the quiet, the particular quality of light on a Southern Highlands afternoon. They came back, again and again, until eventually Burrawang felt less like a getaway and more like home.
They married at the Burrawang pub. Then, enchanted beyond reason, they bought a house on Dale Street and raised their young family here.
When life eventually brought them back to the city, they couldn't bear to leave the house behind – or to keep it to themselves. So they engaged local interior designer Sacha Wark-de Boer of Opal and Oak to transform it into something they could share.
Not a holiday rental. A home, carefully kept and thoughtfully opened.
Wondervale is that home.
A note from the owners:
Welcome!
Settle in and enjoy.
Wondervale is intentionally designed as a simple, yet thoughtful retreat, encouraging gentle reflection and quiet pleasures. It’s a hark back to ‘the simple life’.
So, grab a book, pour a glass of wine and snuggle in by the fire, or pull out a boardgame and enjoy some healthy banter with friends and family. Sit and watch as the birdlife flock into the front yard, and watch the seasons change with the crisp Southern Highlands air on your cheeks.
It’s a wonderful place. We hope you find it wonderful too.
